Spirals
Another characteristic feature of this painting is the spiral – which often reappears in opposite directions – giving the images a dynamism of their own.
Often associated with the term “mandala”, Markus Jenzer has repeatedly emphasised that his path to symmetry was quite particular, that it evolved from his artistic work and was not inspired by the idea of the mandala. Nevertheless, the spiritual character of his images is unmistakable and seems to be produced by the centering power of symmetry itself.
Images from the late phase were displayed now and again at events and in public places. It was not until 2014 that a larger solo exhibition took place, which also included the transition between landscape painting and late works.
Symmetry and other geometric shapes take a prominent place in his later work.
